. Roughly 20 miles away from London it is easily accessible for commuters or tourists via the A1 M. Being only the second garden city in the whole of England, Welwyn garden city was built founded in 1920.

The pub/restaurant/hotel is perfect for your wedding reception or business conference as the oldy world building is both spacious and full of character but doesnt break the bank like many venues would. Its not always the case that bigger is better and for a more intimate and cosy dining experience you might want to check out the Grapevine Restaurant venue. They have a great menu and an adequate function room upstairs for private events.

Welwyn Garden City town centre is also home to a large part of Oaklands College. The centre has a lot of students and 1960s architecture which in some ways can contrast with the 1930s architecture of the original garden city. Contrary to what you would think of the 1960s architecture, it merges seamlessly well with the 1920s residential style houses for the simple reason that the town planning has allowed lush green spaces and foliage to blend the 2. Unlike many town centres Welwyn garden city has been designed so that the prominence is the landscaped gardens and water features as opposed to the cars and shops, a refreshing change. Unfortunately this style of town planning is not commonplace but Welwyn Garden City shows that it can be done and it should be used as an inspiration.

Old Welwyn is the town with the most character as it was the first on the scene. Through the middle of old Welwyn runs a quaint little stream, perfect little picnic spot. Whilst there may not be the artefacts of some historic towns Welwyn is definitely and very nice place to visit and a good place to explore Hertfordshire from. There are plenty of good venues to host events or attend and many nice restaurants to visit, for this reason Welwyn garden city is definitely a destination worth considering.

To summarise what is most interesting about Welwyn Garden City is the execution of its social concept of the garden city making it architecturally a very interesting place to visit. If the town planning significance is not for you then old Welwyn is always there to offer up a dose of English country village and charm. The town is more of a nice day out for shopping trip rather than a historic weekend away. Nevertheless as said before Welwyn is home to some very interesting and charming venues and restaurants where you can either dine or host an event such as or wedding receptions or conference.
