Why You Have To Recycle Old Computers

After buying a new computer, it is essential that your old computer is properly disposed of

. Though sending it to the local dump seems to be the best idea, it isnt. A better and more environment friendly option is to recycle old computers for its proper disposal. Read on to find out why.

1.As the CPU has various poisonous elements like mercury that can damage the nervous system and cadmium that can damage the kidney, it is important that they are disposed of by professional computer recyclers.

2.The cathode rays in the CRT monitors have toxic substances like lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium that are destructive to the global environment. This is why it is advised not to prolong the use of such monitors; but to instead buy new LCD monitors and recycle the old ones.

3.Though the mouse, printer, modem and keyboard are made mostly of plastic and steel, they also have harmful materials that can damage the atmosphere and create health hazards. Once recycled, parts like the circuit board can be reused.

4.The dioxins that are released by plastic and metal substances in your computer cables can cause cancer. In fact, the Phthalates used in cables to improve its flexibility can cause damage to kidney and liver. The copper wires in the cables are very useful after recycling.

5.The toner cartridges that old printers use have carbon black, which is a poisonous substance. In fact, exposure to it can lead to respiratory tract irritation and skin and lung cancer. Even ink-jet cartridges are harmful to you and the environment as it can cause allergic reactions. However as they can be recycled and reused, they are a better option for your printing purposes.
