It goes without saying that no one science, whether applied or exact, or any art or philosophy, can resolve the enigmatic presence, nature, where from, what for, where to, who did it, in terms of origins or finalities. Everything is identifiedas matter or substance. Neither the one or the other have definite identifications. They remain mystery. Reduced to atoms, Matter or Substance, we confront mysteries of presence, formation, structure, characteristics, features, energies, qualities.
Nothing is more mysterious, nothing is more dead-ends. Atoms have to be put together to form matter in its myriads of forms, shapes, colors and features. Atoms are recently identified into its hypothetical nature, as quarks, super or otherwise, then strings , some three million times smaller than quarks.
Here we reach complete mysteries. Ultimate knowledge becomes inaccessible to the human mind. At this point we recoil back to a threshold of ignorance'. In every domain, whether scientific, artistic or otherwise we face the same wall, penetrating, immune to the human comprehension.
The mind we use, is just like our presence, a total enigma. We observe its functions. No one can tell, until now, where our minds came from, how was it conceived and by WHOM?
One hundred and twenty billions of neurons function in complete order and harmony to produce our thinking. How come these neurons come about? How do we explain its presence? Why should it function as it does? What is the laws that govern its functioning? And who mad these laws? Why should there be a brain to think?
If matter is reduced to atoms and the man is reduced to a brain, as is the case, then the inevitable and inescapable confrontation must have a meaning? Or does it?
From birth to death we Have to face the universe, ourselves in it and we have to interact and reflect on it. We have no choice but to.
Every time a researcher, a discoverer, find out something, this thing open up other horizons and other fields of knowledge.
No end for the journey of knowledge. But man succeeds man and generations pass away while we stand in the same position: total ignorance in front of the big mystery. One discovery of mystery leads to another discovery of another mystery.
Thus we move from one mystery to another. We think we find our way but all are dead ends leading to enigmas. Cumulating our knowledge in the total ignorance, which no scientist acknowledges and lesser still laymen.
Man reached the moon, discovered the genetic charters, but never the secret of life, nor the origin of matter. Hypotheses, all the time, from the bog bang, to multi-universe theories, to repeated universes, all remain as enigmas. Nothing is less certain.
The question is Why?
We face these enigmas and demand an explanation, an evidence, a proof, or even an index or a solid argument. But there is nothing.
We unveil nothing of the mystery. Einstein identified this mystery but admitting its presence and by rejoicing in its presence. But this does not advance us in reaching an explanation. An explanation, tempted by an M Theory remain sterile as the thinking of Einstein or a Hawking.
Is there a God or not? Well, it is indeed this very sterility of thought and the inaccessibility to ultimate knowledge that gives meaning to our existence. Two enigmas face one another: Man and Universe.
Would the need for a God resolve such enigmas?
It certainly does in our eyes of mind.
