Will Your Video Appear On Page 1 Of Google?
Most internet marketers (especially the newbies) think that their videos will rank high on Google if they just pick a keyword phrase and create a short video targeting that keyword. But unfortunately, this is not going to happen. In this article, you will learn a secret of ranking videos on top of Google and get a ton of free traffic. If you are doing video marketing, this article will be very valuable for you.
So you've labored long and hard over keyword lists and competition rankings, and now you're ready to start making videos. Getting to the top of the Google rankings is going to be a piece of cake - or is it?
Maybe - but maybe not. Expecting these kind of results will only lead to frustration. Chances are, you've left out a very important component of your keyword research. Before wasting time on video creation, you need to be absolutely sure you can rank for your chosen keyword phrase.
But how can you tell?
In order to tell if it's going to be possible to rank your video for a particular phrase, you need to check manually. Visit Google, and copy+paste one of your pre-researched keyword phrases into the search bar. Any video listings in the search results? If not, it may not be possible for your video to rank in those results either.
Here's an example. At the time this article was written, there were no video listings for the keyword: "tea tree oil uses." Google chose not to show any video results for this keyword on page 1, despite the fact that there are hundreds of videos listed in the "Videos" tab for this keyword.
When you come across a keyword like this, you have two choices: either forget about it, or try to play around with it a bit. A simple way to do this is to try adding or subtracting words form your keyword phrase, to see if videos appear in those search results.
Understanding why Google ranks some videos, but not others...
Put yourself in Google's shoes. Their purpose is to rank the content that's most useful for search engine users (which isn't always video). Using the same example as before, searching for "tea tree oil uses directions" produced video results in Google.
That keyword phrase would be a great choice for creating and submitting a video optimized for search engine rankings, except that it has too much competition.
Optimizing for your chosen keyword
Videos can also sometimes hint at other keywords or phrases worth ranking for.
The bottom of page 1's search results for "tea tree oil uses directions" showed video content. The title of the videos that appeared was "Soap Making Instructions - Tea Tree Oil Soap", so they were not much related to the phrase I typed in.
I then copied and pasted "tea tree oil soap instructions." Much better - videos were ranking at position number 2 instead of the bottom of the page. Therefore, this is a much better phrase to create a keyword-optimized video for.
If you're worried about getting search engine traffic to your videos, this technique will help you focus on only the most worthwhile keywords. The added time to do additional research may be frustrating, but it will pay off as your videos achieve better rankings and greater success.
I am very confident that if you follow the steps above everytime when you create your video for your marketing effort, your video will start to rank better on Google's search results and you will get a lot of free traffic.
