Windmill Companies: 3 Things They Should Do
Demand for their products has never been greater and windmill companies are in a great position these days for making a lot of money.
These are the things we need them to do to make their products even easier to implement though
Windmill companies need to make it easier to understand which domestic wind turbine products they sell will fit best in a particular situation - If you look at sales literature for a domestic wind turbine these days you will find that it can be very confusing. There is so much data and so much information about how the turbine performs that it becomes very difficult to make sense out of it by the average consumer. There are a dearth of comparison charts available that show these different wind turbines that are available in the proper context needed to make a decision on which one to buy. Unfortunately, the the manufacturers feel like they are serving the market by giving them a lot more information than they actually need to make a decision. The problem with that is the market is expanding into homeowners that don't really understand the details of wind science and are intimidated by the process of trying to learn. This means that they will not make decisions as readily and stay out of the wind turbine business until things become clear to them.
Windmill companies should make it easier to calculate how much power their devices will actually make - If you look at the nominal value on a wind turbine it can be very misleading. For example, a 1 kW wind turbine unit does not necessarily produce 1 kW of power. Unless you know better, you would assume that all you need is a 1 kW unit to supply power to your home if your home requires less than 1 kW. That is in no way the case though. It could well be that depending on your window environment even if you have a requirement pitcher home of less than 1 kW, you will still need a 5 kW unit in order to make adequate power for your home. That is because the way they rate these devices is at a relatively high speed, say 28 to 30 mph.
Windmill companies should focus on small, plug and play units that don't require much construction - When these companies come up with a way to plug and play their devices without construction time or involving the utility, in the case of her grid tie in, their sales will explode. Combine that with low velocity wind turbines that can start making power to very low wind speed and you will have an absolute tsunami of new customers flowing to wind turbine companies all over the world.
By and large windmill companies are doing a good job keeping up with demand but if they are going to help society realize the potential of wind technology, they are going to have to focus on making their products easier for the average person to implement.
