An attractive feature of the new Windows 7 operating system is the ability to change
the appearance of the task-bar, sounds, desktop backgrounds and more in one click. This article gives the reader some tips on using this feature.
Windows 7 comes with a handful of themes to choose from already built in. To access these themes right click anywhere on the desktop and a menu will appear. Scan down the menu to the bottom and click on 'Personalize'. A new panel will open showing you what themes are currently available on your system. To enable a theme you simply tap on the theme of your choice. The theme will automatically become enabled and the appearance of your desktop background and task-bar. Also some icons may change too, depending on the theme.
Many themes have more than one desktop background picture and the user is able to set the amount of time a desktop background picture is shown before the theme moves on automatically to the next available background. To adjust the timing click on 'slide show' in the 'Personalize' panel and select the amount of time where it says 'change picture every'. You can manually change the desktop background too by right clicking on the desktop and choosing 'next desktop background' from the menu. Remember to save any changes you make.
There is also the option to add more themes to your system. There are many websites that offer fantastic themes to download. Once downloaded, double click on the new theme and it should install into your themes library automatically.
You can find new themes by doing a search for 'Windows 7 themes' on a search engine such as Google and Google images. There is also the option to 'get more themes online' within the 'Personalize' panel.
To remove any new themes you downloaded to your system, right click on the theme and select 'delete'.
Unfortunately 'Windows Starter' does not have the 'Personalize' panel but it is possible to customize your systems appearance via 'Start Menu' searches.
I hope you have found these tips useful and enjoy using the many different themes that are available to you.
