Knitwear is a very popular look this winter, which is great news for those of us who like to be in style yet stay warm. A wide range of knitwear is on trend this season, from chunky knits to long cardigans, so you can really experiment with the look. Here is a guide to some of the different knitwear looks that are in style this winter.
Chunky knit jumper
A chunky knit jumper is a key look within the knitwear trend. Thick cable knit jumpers in cream, white, or navy look great and their naval style means they are also on trend with the military look. This winter round neck collars are the most in style neckline; however, if you prefer V necks they also work well in a chunky knit. Deep autumnal colours like burgundy, brown and dark green look particularly good in a thick knit as they match the season and make the wool seem even more thick and luxurious.
Patterned
There are lots of patterned jumpers and cardigans around this winter. This includes classic alpine patterns which can be worn in chalets on the ski slopes or out and about on a country walk. Bold block patterns look particularly stylish. These usually take the form of a silhouette image in a dark colour on top of a lighter background. For something a bit more fun go for a quirky repeating pattern such as stars, roses, hearts or spots.
Knitted trousers
Knitted trousers have been making an appearance this season. The majority of these trousers are highly patterned with lots of different wool colours and textures. The fit on these trousers can be quite loose and baggy, or else they are more like leggings with a tight stretchy fit. Knitted trousers seem like the ultimate in comfort clothing, helping you to feel snug and cosy from top to bottom.
Long cardigans
Long cardigans are a great winter layer as they are versatile, stylish and will really keep you warm. As belted long cardigans have been popular in past seasons it's best to avoid these as they now look a little bit dated. Instead go for wrap around cardigans that aren't belted and have oversized front panels. If you want to wear this type of long cardigan done up then add your own skinny leather belt, rather than a knitted belt, as this will help to keep the look on trend. Long cardigans look best in thicker knits as they hang better and make more of a statement. Big bold repeating patterns look great on long cardigans, as do patterns incorporating brighter colours like red, blue and pink.
Cropped
Cropped jumpers and cardigans can be found across the catwalks and high streets this winter. Cropped knitwear is great for layering as you can wear a long top underneath and it will still be seen. This knitwear look is on trend and fun and can be a great transitional layer for slightly warmer days.
