Those who like to always be wired and own the latest gadgets are in for a real treat with improved mobile device technology and the popularity of Blackberrys and iPhones. The wireless Internet capabilities on these machines make it easier than ever to stay connected through means other than the ordinary phone call. They allow people to connect via text, e-mail, social networking websites and moreall while on the go. This is made possible with 4G Internet, also known as "fourth generation" (for those interested in the technical nomenclature). 4G succeeds its predecessor, third generation 3G with faster connection times and improved web browsing capabilities via smart phones and mp3s. This technology brings smart phones the technology needed to keep those who like to be in the know constantly connected. It is now possible to send e-mails, post on peoples' Facebook walls or send a 140-character Tweet to Twitter. It even allows you to do the latest in networking technology, "check in" on Four Square, which uses map locator technology built into phones with mobile broadband GPS systems.

Aside from its social advantages, it also works wonders for those working on deadlines or running late for important meetings. The e-mail capabilities and VoIP calling programs like Skype allow for conference calls with video over your cell phone for meetings with people from across the country, or even the world, at minimal or no cost, unlike if you were to go through your cell phone or even landline companies. In addition, if you have a long train commute, it is possible to get some work done while on the train to alleviate the load once you get to work or on your way home for the next day. Unfortunately, however, there are down sides to having wireless Internet wherever and whenever you need it. Mobile air cards and constant connectivity sees a decrease in legitimate conversations over the phone and people connect with one another less in person because they can do so over the Internet. This could potentially have adverse long-term effects on society, so while mobile broadband is great, like everything else, in moderation. Remember to keep the ones you love in the know in person, too.
