Without Hearing There Is No Talking

It appears that the 5 year old boy cannot hear

. With his blond hair and wide eyes he is unable to recognize even the voice of his own parents. The doctors conducted the standard test and check to see how the boy was going to react.

According to the results the doctor diagnosed him as deaf. A professor of Communicative Disorders at the University Of Wisconsin School Of Medicine is searching for a way to be sure about the boy and other children like him. If a child is diagnosed as suffering from a hearing impairment when something else may be wrong, precious time and money can be wasted on futile and frustrating attempts at treatment.

The reaction is important when testing children for hearing problems. How the brain will respond to the sound given to them is what the doctors will look into. Specially regulated sounds are presented to the child through earphones. Through a computer one will know what the final examination is on the brain wave activity received.

An EEG is the one that will make a graphical representation of the brainwave The reaction of the brain to the sound is then calculated using the computer to reach a statistic. With this procedure all reaction in the brain will be analyzed. The same conditions will still be seen in children based on the research done by the professor just in other alternative ways. In the University of Wisconsin the professors who are into the field of speech and hearing took part in the research as well.

There is lesser damage to the child one their hearing problems are seen earlier as treatment can start right way. Infants also take part in the testing. In the future they hope that new born babies will undergo electric brain response tests so their hearing will be tested.

If they could find a hearing disorder in a day old child, he could be treated immediately and could be able to learn language at a more nearly normal rate. Language skills come about when one is able to hear. In line with this the professor also states that they are looking for more information that will help them further understand the hearing process that happens in children. The causes of hearing loss are also looked into in this research. The best way to carry on with the research is to know how normal children respond to sound and then see how child with hearing problems do also. In their research, they will be testing normal children and young adults first and later high risk children whose medical histories indicate that they may develop learning or hearing problems. Professors are very interested with the different ways a person will react when he or she hears a sound. Another purpose for this study is to more or less gauge how an infant can take in sound and how long it will take for its brain to perceive the noise as normal.
