First of all, what is breast reconstruction? This is a type of plastic surgery that

attempts to restore or rebuild a breast to its original or normal shape, restore its appearance and size, after a woman has undergone a mastectomy. A mastectomy is a surgery that involves removal of the breast, usually to remove cancerous cells or tissue. The removal can be the entire breast or just part of the breast.

Breast reconstruction is different from other cosmetic breast surgeries like breast lift, breast reduction and breast augmentation. These three cosmetic surgeries are performed to enhance the breasts aesthetically and are done with the breasts whole an intact. Breast reconstruction then is done after a breast is removed in order to reshape and recontour it.

In the first place, a woman who has had a breast reconstruction has undergone a lot of stress. First, she has to contend with the fact that one of her breasts or both her breasts were removed. This situation poses already a big stress on a woman. The woman feels insecure or embarrassed about losing one or both breasts. She would also feel low considering the way she would look and dress up without her breasts. In totality, the woman would feel "abnormal".

Another stress she has to contend with is the reason why she had to go into breast reconstruction. A lot of women undergo this procedure because it is needed. Doctors have to remove one or both breasts due to cancer. This reason alone would make a woman feel out rightly very, very low. Having to face the fact that she is stricken with cancer is no joke at all. It is very emotionally distressing. Having to face a potentially life threatening disease which is cancer, and having one's breast removed is all the more devastating to a woman's self esteem. These situations have to be contended with.

Breast reconstruction is a life altering experience. It may be a source of hope and renewed strength despite being cancer stricken. For most women, breast reconstruction may fill in a missing sense of inadequacy. Somehow, these women are able to feel that they are able to conquer cancer and they can go on with life with their heads held high. Breast reconstruction is not a direct treatment for cancer. It only serves as a palliative treatment to make a woman feel whole again and that recovery is still possible. Knowing such certainties ill help a woman feel strong emotionally.

The thought of having one's breast or breasts removed is so terrifying. Thanks to the science of breast reconstruction, women who have undergone a mastectomy will feel emotional fulfillment. This helps a woman to persist living her life and to strongly battle with her disease.

Breast reconstruction also entails the restoration of a woman's look. Because of it, a lot of them were able to feel whole and emotionally satisfied. Moreover, they were able to feel the essence of being a woman and are more confident when it comes to their femininity.

There is a great life ahead after breast reconstruction. Aside from feeling more comfortable, this procedure will make a woman continue to live a normal life. It can bring back a woman's sense of wholeness.
