If you decide to take a safari tour to Botswana you might want to know what a normal day is like. If you call sightings of elephants, leopards, bull elephants, or other wild animals normal then you would be in Southern Africa. Most days begin early in the morning because it is cooler and many of the night time animals are still around. So the day would begin early either by foot, a vehicle for game drives, or if near water perhaps by a form of boat depending where you are taking your safari. The boat might be a canoe in the form of a specialty safari. You would then return to the camp for lunch and a nap. It is warm in the afternoons and the animals will be seeking shade not wandering about. The next outing would be in the late afternoon to sunset when you would return to camp to cleanup and eat.
There are different forms of camps or places to bed down on a safari. Again depending on where you are travelling in Africa but you can choose a basic camp safari where typically you would stay in a dome type tent that you may have to assist in the raising and lowering of. Also on this more basic safari you may also have to do a rotation of preparing meals. There is also this more basic type of lodging where you have little participation to no participation each at a different price level.
The next level would be permanent tents or mobile tents. A permanent tent camp would most likely be near a watering hole so you can take trips to the watering hole in the evening. This type of camp site is not mobile and you will spend more time travelling to the sightseeing locations then if you are in a mobile camp. In a mobile camp the tents are moved along with the group and often set up in advance of the group arriving at the next campsite although this may not always e the case.
In the Botswana area is the Okavango Delta which has over 500 species of birds and much wildlife. From July to October is the prime game viewing period. Safaris can include a foot tour or tours by canoe. There are lodges located on the edges of this delta.
