Work for Students: Negative Results of Juggling Job and Studies
Lack of self-motivation Due to the fact that college life is relatively careless, most students lack personal motivation. They receive financial support from their parents or/and the state and enjoy their life studying and entertaining. Most students are so relaxed that the idea to find a part-time job does not occur to them. They are unable to allot time to their homework in different subjects not to mention juggling work with studies. As a rule, young people are assured that part-time job and studies are mutually exclusive phenomena. Because of this generally accepted misconception students devote much less time to their studies. They find excuses in their job for their examination failures or even college drop-outs. The true reason for these negative phenomena is lack of self-motivation and underdeveloped time-management skills. For these reasons some parents may be against their children's part-time jobs. Still, it is necessary to look for the roots of the problem. Setting the priorities Some adults may have problems with self-organization and time-management as well. These are certain personal traits and distorted life views that do not allow people to reach their goals. For example, some people might bite off more than they can chew. It is preferable to choose attainable goals and look for the ways to solve the problems instead of complaining. The most important issue for improving one's self-motivation is setting the priorities and correspondent management of time and efforts. A person has to decide which goals are most important for him/her. Struggling to do everything at once a person might not cope with this pressure. The following hints might be helpful for students who are going to juggle work with studies: think over the reasons inducing you to combine work with studies; estimate you time-management and self-control skills; set the priorities.
