Would You Believe That The Winter Can In Fact Be The Best Time To Lose Weight And Get Healthy?
When many people imagine the perfect time to lose weight get healthy
, their thoughts very often drift to spring or summer.
Warm weather without a cloud in the sky means that they can walk more often to gain regular exercise and the fact that the nights are light and mild allows people to get the barbecue out and enjoy a sumptuous and healthy meal of grilled chicken, potatoes and salad.
Sounds absolutely perfect, doesn't it?
Well it might sound perfect in theory, but when spring and summer come around, this remains as a thought for many and the reality of them losing weight and getting healthy because of their potentially fantastic summer regime very rarely materialises.
And it's because of this why winter - often regarded as the time of year that many people gain winter and become particularly unhealthy - can in fact be the best time to kick start your weight loss regime.
Take attendance at the gym as an example.
Throughout the summer months, although the nights are lighter and you aren't in as much of a rush to get home from work, gym attendance can decrease if you're not particularly motivated - why would you want to be sweating away in a gym with dozens of other people when you can be enjoying the weather in your garden?
When winter hits, however, as soon as you leave work, you have two options - head home, curl up in front of the TV and eat or head to the gym where you can exercise, increase your fitness levels and lose weight.
The choice for those who are looking to lose weight is more often than not the last one.
And then you have your healthy eating.
During summer, you naturally eat healthy, right?
Grilled chicken, boiled potatoes, salads - they're all low in fat and for the most part, good for you.
Unfortunately, it's what very often accompanies these meals that make them unhealthy - an ice cold beer or glass of white wine can be extremely refreshing and seem like the perfect end to a hard day at work.
Plus, mayonnaise or a dressing with your salad is more often than not the norm and bread and butter is a perfect accompaniment to chicken.
Whilst winter might make us feel naturally more inclined to eat unhealthy foods so that we stay full and warm for longer, the fact that these foods have to be - or are - unhealthy is nothing more than a common misconception.
A chicken casserole, for example, is a comparatively healthy option for a winter meal and homemade soup is in fact one of the healthiest meals that you can have.
Whilst dieting and increasing your health and fitness levels during the summer may not be as easy as you first thought, this doesn't mean that you should give up all together or wait until winter comes around - start in summer, get the ball rolling and by the time winter comes you'll be ready to up your game and give it your all.
