It is quite effective if you have an article that is making a number of points or asking and answering questions. You continue the article into the resource box with a couple of paragraphs continuing to ask and answer questions. This will make it quite long but it works naturally down to your link.

Using you name in the resource box is a good idea if you are trying to make a name for yourself in a niche. Noone cares who you are when they are buying a product and it may even be distracting so they end up not clicking on your link at all.
