Writing Quality Articles to Generate Targeted Traffic to Your Website

Content is King

It's often said about websites in general and it certainly applies to the writing of quality articles themselves. You have to have content that is going to prove valuable to your readers. No doubt you've come across articles that have little, if anything beneficial to say.

Just the Facts Ma'am

Here's where I date myself. Some of you remember Detective Joe Friday in Dragnet. Every time he would question a witness, they would seem to ramble on and on about something and he'd have to give them his "Just the facts Maam" line. The same is true to quality article writing. Keep on topic.

It's fine to sprinkle in a little humor or color but to get targeted traffic that will want to read your articles you need to keep focused on the main topic at hand. This article is about quality writing to generate targeted traffic to your website. I wouldn't want to branch off onto a subject such as other ways to generate website traffic. Save that for another article.

Don't Oversell

I suppose there are many reasons to write articles, or for that matter to try and get traffic to your website. But for most of us, we are endeavoring in some way to benefit financially from this. So don't shoot yourself in the foot. If you oversell your website or product in your article you'll end up doing more damage than good.

First of all, there will be many article directories and websites that will not except your article because of having too many links or content that is viewed as "spamming". Secondly, you will loose the attention of your readers as they will see the article for what it is, an advertisement, and probably won't finish the article or click through to your website anyway.

Use the Bio as Your Carrot

If you've done your job thus far, here's where the payoff comes in. You've written a quality article that has benefited your reader and now you get to tell them a bit about yourself and how, perhaps, you can benefit them some more. A brief three to five sentence bio should be sufficient.

Tell them just a bit about what you do and more importantly, how it can help them. Put in well placed links to your website and hopefully the traffic will follow. Once your articles are out on the internet the backlinks contained in your Bio will help raise your page rank with the search engines as well.

Keep patient, keep writing and keep submitting your articles to quality submission websites and you will see a definite increase in targeted traffic to your website.
