Yeast Infection In Men
One of the most common causes of a yeast infection is various eating
disorders. Take note that excessive intake of starchy products, such as
peanuts, wheat, corn and barley, consumption of junk foods, regular intake
of alcoholic beverages and irregular food consumption can all result to yeast
overgrowth. That is the reason why proper dieting is of utmost importance
when experiencing the condition, especially if it occurs frequently.
The spread of the infection is also possible, especially when engaged in
unprotected sexual activities. Having sex with a yeast-infected individual
can cause yeast infection or candidiasis, although it is not categorized as an
STD or sexually transmitted disease. Condoms that contain nonoxynol-9
can also trigger the infection. Aside from that, individuals with weak immune
system are also susceptible to having this.
Symptoms
* If left untreated, an ordinary infection can lead to systemic yeast infection
and such condition comes with easy to ready symptoms. Males usually
dismiss the infection's neurotic symptoms, which usually include fatigue,
joint pain, craving for sugary or starchy foods like cookies, chips and bear,
disturbed digestive system, increased heart rate, diarrhea and white blood
cell deficiency.
* Swelling of the penis or balanitis is a symptom that is hard to ignore. This
usually causes soreness, burning sensation, itching and tenderness
particularly after having an intercourse. The symptom is also accompanied
by the presence of red spots, white substance on the glans and foreskin,
extreme redness and blisters.
* Candidemia, on the other hand, refers to the presence of fungus within the
bloodstream. The symptoms presented are much like the symptoms of
genital herpes where infectious spots are found in the armpits and navel.
Diagnosis
Spit test is one of the most commonly used diagnostic methods for yeast
infection. This is carried out by spitting in a glass of water and setting it
aside for at least 20 to 30 minutes before checking for the result. However,
this method should be done right after waking up without brushing the teeth
or having breakfast. If the saliva dissolves in water then there is high
possibility that the individual is not infected with yeast. Then again, it is
imperative to know that saliva may disappear even when infected by the
condition and so if experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned above, it is
still necessary to consult the physician immediately. Physicians usually
conduct a pH test to determine yeast infection. Yeast cultures can be
obtained using a sterile swab and incubated to see if yeast will start to grow,
thus helping to determine the infection.
Treatment
For these conditions, physicians usually prescribe certain medications, such
as fluconazole, econazole, amphotericin B suspension and ketoconazole.
However, administration of these medications is not recommended unless
advised by a physician and after going through in-depth diagnosis. Above
all else, prevention is of utmost importance when dealing with yeast
infection. It is also necessary to maintain proper diet and lifestyle if
suspected susceptible to the condition to prevent recurrence of infection.
When dealing with yeast infection, preventive measures are necessary to
properly manage the condition. Aside from that, familiarizing yourself with
the symptoms of
yeast infection is equally important to be able to opt for
immediate treatment for the condition.
