Two factors can change such behavior. With mentoring, women are better positioned to understand and are empowered to ask and to receive. Further, they need the support of those kinds of professional and social networks where men learned that "life is negotiable". The HBR report detailed studies which showed that when women received these kinds of support, they reacted powerfully and positively, and felt comfortable in asking for more. People have different reactions to the same behavior from men and women. A man would be described as being focused or aggressive; similar behavior in a woman would have people calling her overbearing or confrontational. When we become aware of these reactions, we uncover buried prejudices, and move forward to create a business world where both men and women ask and receive in equal measure.
