Your Guide To Vision Correction Options

There are more options for vision correction today than at any other time in history

, and from invasive to non invasive techniques, there are many different benefits to being able to see clearly. Many people are interested in surgical procedures in order to fix their eye sight, and although most people are good candidates for these types of procedures, not everyone is. Some of the most common procedures include lasik, lasek, lens transplant surgery and PRK, among others. There are many factors that doctors weigh and consider when trying to determine if a person would be a good candidate for these types of surgeries. Some of those include the persons age, how moist their eye is in general, the severity of the vision problem, the health of the cornea, the shape of the eye, the shape of the cornea and how the pupil is able to dilate in dim light and how it behaves with bright light. For the most part, the most common vision correction surgery is the Lasik procedure.

With the Lasik, or laser in keratomileusis surgery, the procedure is quick and virtually painless. Special eye drops that have an anesthetizing effect are applied so that the patient feels no discomfort. There are more than a handful of professionals who will be able to do the procedure for you, so take your time in interviewing doctors to make sure that you are completely comfortable with the person you will be entrusting your eyes to during any vision correction procedure. The main point of any of the procedures is reshaping the corneas of the eyes. Some of the problems that can be fixed by these procedures include hyper myopia, astigmatism and myopia, as well as others.

A Lasek eye procedure uses an alcohol solution to loosen up the outer layer of the cornea, and the excimer laser is used to remove the outer corneal layer and replace it with a healthy one. A lens transplant is a less common procedure, probably because many more people are uncomfortable with it. The lens in the eye is replaced with an artificial lens that is a good shape that will allow you to see correctly. PRK, or photo refractive keratectomy is another type of laser surgery. In this procedure, the outer corneal layer is manually scraped to have the cornea reshaped. However, that outer layer will grow back. Another name for a modified version of this type of eye correction in San Diego is Epi laser.
