Your One And Only Way Of Learning Basketball Dribbling Skills Effectively
Nothing equals basketball dribbling skills when mastered on the court
. You can become an unstoppable force that no amount of one-on-one defence can conquer. Thats why you need to become great with dribbling and ball handling before moving on to shooting and other basketball skills. Great ball handlers are usually relied on by each team to become their leaders in making plays or getting the ball where it needs to be.
Your one and only way of developing basketball dribbling skills is through basketball dribbling drills. I can share some great input about which drills you can use, especially if you are still starting out. With these drills, you will become a more proficient dribbler and will get one step closer to becoming the best.
Please take time to read and understand the following basketball dribbling drills you can use to master ball handling:
1.)The Figure 8 Low Dribble
Dribbling is not all about learning different moves and tricks. You need to understand its more fundamental concept. Its about getting a feel of the ball, learning to dribble without looking at it, and learning to change the speed of the dribble.
The figure 8 dribble can help you with this. This is one of the most common and most fundamental of the ball handling drills out there. What you need to do is to assume a stance by spreading your legs sideward wide enough. Bend at your waist then dribble the ball low and quickly. If you are using your right hand to dribble, form the figure 8 by slowly moving the ball towards the center of your outstretched legs. Then have your left hand take the ball from your right and continue the dribble. Slowly move the ball from your back, to your left side, then back to the front, and finally towards the center of your legs again. Have your right hand take the ball and repeat the procedure. If you get better enough, try doing this without looking at the ball.
2.)The 4-Step Drill
By now, you should have an idea of the different dribbling skills. However, knowing how to perform them is not enough. You should practice doing them over and over to help you become well-acquainted with how each of these basketball dribbling skills feel like, especially when mixing them up.
The 4-step drill is a great way to achieve that. This ball handling drill is done by standing with a ball on one end of the court. Then, you need to dribble the ball in 4 steps. However, you will need to perform one of the basketball dribbling skills when taking a step. This means that you will complete 4 moves by the time you are done.
As an example, you can start by doing an inside-out dribble, a spin move, and then followed by stutter steps, and finally a crossover. Stop after the 4th move, and then restart the drill using another combination of moves.
Your basketball dribbling skills are sure to improve when you mix basketball dribbling drills that address the fundamentals of ball handling and the practice in the different techniques. Just make sure to practice and practice until you master them.
