. Of course, you've heard the term psychic before and likely you have your own view of what it is and how it works. But what exactly do they do and are they real? In the movies, you see psychics depicted as individuals who are able to view the future by looking into a crystal ball or a gypsy reading palms at carnivals.

In actuality, a psychic is a person that is able to sense things that aren't available through normal sensory perceptions. There are all different sorts of psychic abilities which include psychometry for example, which is when an object or article is used to pick up the vibrations or essence of its owner.

Then there are those who are clairvoyant, which is when a person is able to perceive things and see things that others are unable to. Think of the Sixth Sense. Precognition is a very popular term in the psychic genre of movies and books. This is when an individual is able to see events that occur in the future. Final destination and premonitions are other terms for it. The Dead Zone and many other thriller movies have centered around the topic. But it's not just movies and fiction books that delve into psychic abilities. Even reality shows have been created, such as those dealing with detectives who work with mediums who try to help solve cases. These individuals usually have gifts to connect with the dead, using clairvoyance or psychometry, use items to see things that have happened.

Some people are born with psychic gifts that they use and hone throughout their lives. Then there are others who either develop them later or realize them later in life. Some even obtain them after something traumatic happens, such as a brain injury and where some develop psychic abilities or interests at the very least.

There are non-believers who don't think people have special abilities and are just equipped with good perception and an ability to read people. Of course, there are the scammers out there who claim to have a gift, but don't and are only looking to trick people into giving them their money. Some actually have abilities that they use for the public in exchange for money. Some think that this is ethical, while others may not think so.

Psychic abilities have also been associated with witchcraft. Think of the 17th century when people were getting persecuted for being witches. Likely, some had special abilities. Back then, people feared what they didn't understand and they disliked those that were different.

Today, people are working on ways to develop psychic abilities because they believe that everyone is able to tap into them. Some have just been lucky enough to already have them available. Studying the mind and how it works has already broken boundaries. I encourage you to study how the mind works and see how you can interconnect with your inner-self and abilities.
