The HCG diet uses a hormone found in a pregnant woman's body to help obese men and women fight their weight problems and effectively keep off the weight even after they return to their normal routine after the diet.

How does HCG diet works?

Dr Simeons found that HCG can target the fat areas and burn away the same at an unbelievably high rate. The original HCG diet program suggested by him includes up to 50 days of treatment comprising of two rounds of 25 days each. Of the 25 days of treatment required in both the rounds, the dieter is required to take a daily injection of HCG for at least 23 days. In most cases, a dieter is administered 40 injections during the entire duration of the treatment. However, this number can vary depending on the way a dieters body reacts to HCG. For instance, in some cases, HCG dieters had to take lesser than 40 injections as they already lost 34 to 40 pounds (15 to 18 kilograms) faster than expected during the course of the treatment.

Why the break in treatment?

Regardless of the speed at which the dieters get results from this treatment, no HCG injections are administered on the last three days of any treatment period so as to allow the hormone to pass out of the body naturally. This helps the dieters in returning to their normal diet without any problem and provides sufficient time for the effects of the HCG hormone to kick in so to say. If you are convinced about the benefits of this diet and do not quiet understand why only 40 injections, it is because a dieters body may develop immunity to the hormone after 40 days. However, resuming the same treatment after a break of six weeks can again stimulate it to lose fat from the target areas.
