Yucatan Real Estate Merida's Infrastructure Receives Investment

For foreign buyers of Mexico Real Estate, it is important to know that there is

solid base of government investment into development and infrastructure to guarantee the convenience of travel and services while living in Mexico. Yucatan Real Estate, is excellent example of a destination where various levels of government continually invest in maintaining and improving on existing infrastructure, as recent investment in the Metropolitan Merida real estate area has shown.

In October, Secretary General of Government, Victor Sanchez Alvarez, signed an agreement to allot about 20 million pesos to infrastructure for Yucatan's metropolitan, Merida, with about 35 million more to come. The main purpose of the investments are to support urban growth and development.

These first 19.8 million pesos will be used to begin the eight projects approved by the Council for Metropolitan Yucatan (COMEY). The eight projects to be funded are include several medical institutions, construction of a waste disposal site, a new court, a police module and the building of another bike path in Merida.

Further funding, including 15 million more, resulting from an agreement with the National Science Council and Technology (CONACYT) will be invested to boost strategic research in environment, water, regulatory framework, road integration, territorial reserves and solid waste. The intention is that these investments will drive a sustainable and well-planned metropolitan development.

This funding shows the ongoing commitment of the state and regional governments in Yucatan to maintain and increase livability in Merida, both keeping up the comfort of life in this beautiful, colonial city, and protecting property investments.

Currently ,Merida MLS listings will show that many 18th century homes in the city's historical center are available at competitive prices. North Americans can enjoy the benefit of living in a colonial city, with its beautiful Mexican architecture; only a short drive away is the coastal town of Progreso, where Merida's residents can enjoy the luxuries of Mexico's famous beaches and oceanfront lifestyle. Also, due to constant investment, both government and private, Merida offers the modern comforts of excellent infrastructure and health care. Shopping, both in large malls, or in small shops, is readily available, as well as many restaurants, offering local Mayan and "Yucatecan" dishes, as well as many styles of Mexican food and international cuisine. Merida is already home to many expats, enjoying this ideal combination of historical Mexico, nearby beachfront access, and international lifestyle.
