Zoom Drum Machines - Everything You Need To Know is Here!
In this article I want to talk to you about one of the new zoom drum machines I got recently for using at live shows.
I've mentioned in a few of my articles before that I always like to use a drum machine for live work because you don't have the worry about it crashing half way through like most laptops.
So I go the RT-223 drum and bass machine which is one of the really small and lightweight zoom drum machines, and I've been messing about with it for a few days.
I usually get Roland drum machine so this was a bit of an experiment:
Here's what I've found so far...
* 70 Drum Kits - There is more than enough to choose from there and the samples are pretty nice.
* Make Your Own Kit - I've mashed together loads of samples and kits to make some cool sounds.
* Bass - I never really use this but the finger bass sounds quite cool so I might put it on a few demos.
* EQ - You can tweak it for the room you're playing in.
* Reverb - You don't need to put reverb on your drums, it will just make them sound a mess.
* Ready Made Beats - This is cool for me because I'm lazy ;-)
The only problem I have with this and other zoom drum machines that I have tried in the past is that they have so many functions it can be really hard to get around them just using the little buttons on the front.
Sometimes you need to scroll through four menus just to get what you need.
I wish they would just stick to the simple drum machine functions and master them.
It's not as easy as making drum tracks on a drum machine because there are so many features that the little buttons have to control which can make it a little confusing.
But for live work there is nothing better right now.
