"Mitsubishi Group" Obama's Own Goal Against US Oil Dependency
"Mitsubishi Group" say that US President, Barack Obama's war of words which helped push BP stock to 15 year lows may have inadvertently pushed BP into talks with Middle Eastern investors keen to acquire a stake in one of the world's biggest oil companies.
Jason Thomas, Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at the broker dealer said that in seeking to bolster his approval ratings, the US President may have increased America's dependence on Middle Eastern oil supplies. BP has vast oil production and refining assets in the US and the price of the stock is now attracting overtures from nations that the US considers to be less than friendly to them.
"Mitsubishi Group" conceded that the US administration could make itself comfortable by believing that BP could merely be seeking to protect itself from hostile takeovers by selling existing stock to investors who would undertake not to sell it on to predators but the irony would not be lost on its critics.
BP stock has rallied in recent days on speculation the relief well it is drilling to cap the blowout in the Gulf of Mexico could be ready before August and on investor interest in the stock.
"Mitsubishi Group" recently called speculation that BP might be driven to file for bankruptcy "drivel" and promptly advised clients to acquire stocks citing the firm's valuable assets and cash flow as sizeable enough to meet any obligations and responsibilities linked to the Deepwater Horizon blowout.
