Moisture Scavengers are highly effective for Urethane Coatings and Sealants The existence of moisture in polyurethanes is the foremost reason liable for the failure or loss of performance in coatings and sealants. Moisture has a unique property to react with isocyanate for produce gaseous carbon dioxide that in turn exhibits bubbling, pinholing and other issues. There are primarily two reasons for the prevalence of moisture contamination. This moisture contamination can emerge either from within the formulation or as result of increased atmospheric humidity. It is universally known that solvents may contain some traces of water which can sometimes lead to the dispersion of urea crystals. In the same way, pigments, fillers and flatting agents can procure absorbed moisture which produces carbon dioxide gas on reaction with isocyanate. This carbon dioxide is then stored within the film surface, particularly in high solids formulations resulting into pinholes or bubbles.
