The Two MotivatorsWhen you boil it down, you're motivated by two simple things:1. To avoid pain (fear of failure)2. To gain pleasure (promise of reward)You are naturally geared toward one of these motivators. To figure out which, think of the last time you accomplished a task and then ask yourself the following: While doing the task were you thinking about what would happen if you failed to finish, or were you thinking about what you would gain...more
I was recently presented with a dilemma here on Free my Brain. I want to encourage dialog and exchange of ideas, but I don't intend to provide an open marketplace for sale of migraine "cures." (Though I will gladly support and even promote helpful products and services.) Migraine is a complex, genetically based, neurological disease. The frequency and severity of migraines vary enormously from person to person; so do the number and complexity of...more
One of the concepts I want to talk about is a Smart Rhinoplasty. When you perform a rhinoplasty, you have to make sure that you don't cause problems with the nose, especially in the future. Any time you make the nose smaller, you are essentially narrowing the airway. In general, a reductive rhinoplasty will cause some type of nasal destruction, whether it is immediately post-op or five years down the line. So in essence, if I am going to make a nose smaller, I want to make the nose functionally stronger. The reason why I say this is because I've seen many rhinoplasty procedures, including my own, that have had basic procedures such as a hump reduction, osteotomies to narrow the nasal bones and basic tip refinement. When I mention the word tip refinement, I mean a cephalic trim which means removing a small part of the nasal tip cartilage, while leaving 7 mm of cartilage using sutures to narrow the nasal tip. You would think that this conservative treatment of the nose would not cause any problems, but it does in many scenarios. In these basic procedures, whether it is a closed or open rhinoplasty can take anywhere from one and a half hours to two hours. Unfortunately, any time between...more
IntroductionThe follicular unit (FU) was first defined by Headington and the conceptual framework for using FUs in hair transplantation was laid out by Bernstein and Rassman. It became clear to most surgical hair restoration practitioners that the single-strip harvesting and stereomicroscopic dissection techniques developed by Limmer in 1988 were...more
Boom, Bang Ka-Pow. Reading these words will never have the same impact as hearing the real sounds in action. Written words (and hand gestures) are the way an ever-growing part of our population communicates, due to the worldwide increase in hearing loss. Combine modern music players, cellphones, cars, trains, planes, lawnmowers and construction...more
Are you plagued by falling short of inevitable success? Here is a revelation of how even the simplest things can cause us a great amount of discomfort. By learning about these, you may choose to take necessary steps to modify events in your own life to create a better life for yourself. The topics I write about are varied because I have more interests than the average person. That is what happens when you condition your brain and use Mental Photography for most of your adult life. My ability to talk to people about virtually anything makes life rather interesting. I see connections where most others don't. I have been blessed many times over in my journey through life - and I am grateful. The following incident comes from my interaction with one of my clients. The words she used revealed a picture of disbelief. Even though the client was in complete denial that this had any effect on how she thought about things, or events unfolding, it was clear to me what impact it was having. Cause and effect is easily recognized when you know what to look for.I have worked with people from all over the world, with all different backgrounds, education, and social status. I have found that there is...more
