For 3 years now, since I love soccer, I have been playing soccer in a Highland Co-ed Adult league during the summer. The league is relaxed competition that allows "newbies" to learn the game of soccer. One Saturday (7 August), I was playing in this game and broke my foot. While playing defense (which I usually do), I take it personally when a goal is scored. I had been beat 3 times by this player and decided I wouldn't let it happen again. As he moved with the ball, I reached and took control of the ball with the right foot, while planting the left. Soccer fields in Utah are notorious for being uneven and I twisted my foot under (the typical mechanism of an ankle sprain). Although it hurt, I rarely get a true ankle sprain. I distributed the ball and then hobbled back to my position on the field. This hurt much more than usual and I was unable to run as completely for the last 10 minutes of the game. (Special note: If you hurt your ankle or foot, it is not recommended that you run through the pain as this can make any injury worse.)As I went home after the game, here is the process I underwent in treating my injury:- Limiting activities initially: Walking caused increased...more

We use and abuse them every day! Our hands, we clean and scrub, we pick things up, open close doors and typing on our computers! We open cans and jars, put shoes on, buckle children's car seats, turn knobs, dials, the list goes on. While most of us rub lotion on our hands this only takes care of the skin. Sure this helps after we wash dishes and counters, but it doesn't take care of muscles or joints. Guess what does? A good hand massage does. Even when we rub lotion on our hands, we enjoy the feeling of the rubbing motion. Let me tell you first about the art of massage, then about hand massage. I know you'll be interested to learn more, I certainly was.Have you ever had a massage? Do you think this is something new? No, it is not a new medical breakthrough, this art has been practiced throughout the world. Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use; the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments; and even Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems.
