Probate fees are dependent on the value of the estate. If the estate is worth £5000 or less there are no probate fees to be paid to the Probate Service. This amount would be calculated after the funeral expenses and dept payments have been made. However, the fees payable for estates worth £5000 or more is only £105. It is possible to apply for remission from payment should it be the case that payment with cause you significant financial hardship. It is possible to be offered either a full remission from the fee or a part remission of the probate fee. The application form for the remission of probate is a EX160A which also includes an information booklet letting you know the ins and outs of court fees and whether or not you are required to pay them.
