Flights are not the most enjoyable experience: there's all the stresses and strains

off getting to the airport on time, getting through complicated security procedures, and making to on to the plane on time. By doing a few siple exercises when you get on the plane you can ensure that the you can calm down and let all stress drift.

Firstly, you want to try to make sure that the whole experience of getting onto the plane isn't any more stressful than it already is. When someone cuts in front of you in a line, don't worry as you'll just have to sit waiting somewhere else. And when you have to actually get on the flight after waiting at the gate, don't be in any rush to be one of the first people to get onto the flight, after all flights from Rochester to San Diego are hardly going to take off without you simply because you did not just up and run to the plane as fast as the airline would have liked you to.

Once you've gotten on the plane you need to start doing your breathing exercises. This when send oxygen around your body, and relax your muscles. You don't need to close your eyes, but completely ignore your surroundings. Breath in deeply through your mouth and then exhale through, do this ten times and then reverse the procedure by taking deep breathes through your nose and out through your mouth. This will slow your heart rate and get you used to the air quality on the plane.

The final piece of advice is the actually meditation that all of this has been leading up to. Even on flights from Miami to Madrid you can meditate, despite the noise and things going on around you. Close your eyes, let all thought drift away, and see how long you can stay in that state. You won't reach enlightenment before you hit the runway, but you'll certainly feel better!
