I found all of the controls and buttons easy to use, and though the SD780 IS was somewhat slippery, I discovered it about as easy to hold as the SD1000 once I got it under control. I'd definitely use a wrist strap with this little guy. Shooting outdoors in daylight I had no trouble at all with the Canon SD780 IS. Indoors, however, the SD780 IS produced far fewer sharp shots, despite its image stabilization. All my handheld shots of our indoor test target were soft. Some were soft simply because the camera had to raise the ISO to 800 to get a good exposure (thanks to the f/3.2-5.8 lens), and other people we soft simply because of motion blur. It wasn't until I switched to flash mode that I got great, sharp shots. ISO is raised to only 250, which permits a shutter speed of 1/60 second. Switching to Slow-synchro flash mode allowed more of the ambient light to illuminate the scene, and I got about 50/50 sharp and motion-blurred shots at 1/5 to 1/6 second, once more at ISO 250. That's not poor. It doesn't account for subject movement, however, which is also important to think about when photographing people indoors and at night. This camera is so compact, it fits into my pocket and is unobtrusive. The sleek, curved, and cool red color attracts my friends to comment on it. It's 12.1 megapixel delivers sharp HD photos that will be edited. The best feature is the video. It delivers extremely high sharp quality video that impresses everyone. It's still 30fps but it competes next to my camcorder when i edit video together. i can hardly tell the diference between the camcorder clips and also the canon powershot clips. The only negative thing about this is in the event you have large fingers, the buttons may be a bit small. but that's it. I bought this camera about 1 month back for an upcoming vacation. In that time, I can honestly say that this camera is the very best for the price. Pictures... videos... they all come out outstanding. I viewed the pictures on my TV (52 inch LCD) and I can state that they had been the sharpest, most detailed pictures of all of my previous digital cameras (4 before the SD780 IS). Usually, when taking pictures, I leave the camera on the Auto mode and, for the most part, the pictures will come out great. For those other occasions, I switch to the Program mode and adjust the settings from there. I have not noticed any serious noise while taking pictures in low light. Actually, I shot very a couple of pictures in a museum and the ones without the flash turned out much better than those with the flash. The Image Stabilization mode works wonderfully. I have really taken pictures while walking, but you would never know it by looking at the photos. 3X zoom is adequate most of the time, but I do wish it went a bit further. The video quality is awesome for a camera in this class. I have converted the video to AVCHD DVD and played it back on my BlueRay player and I could not believe the quality. As far as I am concerned, I no longer require my old mini DV video camera as this does most every thing better. The video is sharp and smooth in the 720 mode. The only drawback is that you can't use the optical zoom while recording. Set it ahead of time and you are fine. You are able to, nevertheless, use the digital zoom, but you can see the degradation within the video quality although using it beyond 2.5X zoom. Not terrible, but something to be conscious of. I have read a few of the previous reviews on the sound quality being poor, but as far as I am concerned, the sound high quality has been nothing short of outstanding. Battery life is great as I got about 20 minutes of video and 160 pictures on 1 charge. Pick up a second battery as a spare so you donot have to worry about missing any shots. If you are searching for a simple point and shoot camera that takes excellent pictures and video, then this is the 1 for you.
