Association Members In Paris Conference
The British members of international accountancy association MGI recently gathered
in Paris to share ideas and expertise with colleagues from around the world at MGIs annual general meeting.
A total of 18 representatives from British member firms Midgley Snelling, Milsted Langdon, Rowleys, Watson Buckle, Rickard Keen, Seymour Taylor and Carter Backer Winter, were among the 140 delegates at the event, which took place in Paris from 14 to 16 October.
The meetings theme, The Economic Crisis: Opportunity and Challenge, provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions about the global financial situation and how MGI and its members could confront the current challenges and maximise the opportunities created by current world developments.
Midgley Snelling partner Andrew Grout chaired the event, while his brother Jeff Grout, considered one of the leading business speakers in Britain, ran a seminar on leadership. Recent MGI recruits Carter Backer Winter also took the opportunity to introduce themselves to other members, with a presentation based on the theme of a London Monopoly board.
Keith Bell, tax partner at Essex firm Rickard Keen, said: Thanks to MGI, we get to work with a lot of other accountants across the globe, sharing expertise and referring work back and forth. It was great to meet with some of these people face to face, which Im sure will enhance our relationships in the future.
We also attended a couple of presentations, one on how to spot clients who are in financial difficulty in order to help them sooner, and a motivational speech on how to get the most out of your team, which I definitely took a couple of ideas from that I plan to put into practice here.
Finally, we had presentations from some of MGIs new members, which were all excellent, and provided us both with a good introduction to people well hopefully be working with in future, and gave us some ideas on how to present ourselves.
