Hotels are a good alternative to a purpose built conference centre in which to hold

a seminar or convention because they generally have very good facilities, access to quality food and drink and rooms large enough to host such events. They also have bedrooms which for a conference running over several days, would be a boon. However, choosing furniture that is suitable for hotels which is also suitable for conferences has to be done with care and thought. The hotel may only host a certain number of conferences in one year but may well host many other events and gatherings so choosing suitable furniture is vital.

Hotel furniture has to be multi functional but still needs to be comfortable and user friendly. Tables are fairly easy to choose and can be used for a variety of functions as well as dining, if the hotel dining room is used as a conference room. They can be arranged in the way required for the conference and remain completely functional and look professional. There is plenty of choice available and choosing tables that fit with the ambiance and look of the hotel is going to be an important factor. Tables should be constructed from good quality materials and be sturdy. Wobbly or flimsy tables are an absolute no no. Tables which are used for dining as well as for functions and seminars can be easily protected by using special table coverings. This will keep them looking good for many years of use.

Chairs will be slightly more difficult to choose because there are individual chairs for different purposes but less choice of multi purpose chairs which will be suitable for a hotel's use. Therefore, a compromise will probably have to be made and a chair which is suitable for a variety of functions and events will need to be found. Chairs are a very important part of conference furniture because delegates will be sitting on them for perhaps a whole day so they do need to be comfortable and supportive. The chairs should be of a reasonable size so that they can accommodate the person sitting on them and have a good back, preferably shaped, which will give some support. A generous amount of padding on the seat is essential for comfort, particularly if the person is to remain seated for most of the day. It may be that the hotel requires the chairs to be stacked while not in use, so this may be an important feature. There are many suitable chairs on the market to fit this purpose, so a bit of careful research and testing would be a very good idea. That way, the chairs will be the most suitable for multi purpose events and that will store easily.

There may well be hotels that have specific rooms and furniture set aside for conferences and they will have a greater choice when choosing their furniture. However, there is nothing wrong with having multi functional furniture providing it is of good quality and is comfortable.
