Most new-build homes come with a very neutral colour palette as standard
, which doesn't suit everybody. Blue can be a cooling colour, also calming. It can add to a modern "techno environment" with use of LED spot lighting, or can be used to make a room a haven of sumptuous luxury with the correct palette and use of fabrics and trimmings. From an interior design point of view, it is worthwhile creating a mood board adding colour charts, fabrics and trimmings along with key items that will feature in your room, to give you a good idea of the theme and ambience of your proposed room. The featured mood board in this article is a piece of work that I created for a new-build with an open-plan kitchen, leading into the dining area. It shows how the vibrant, fresh blue palette chosen for the kitchen walls and window blinds, can run smoothly into the softer greens chosen for the dining area without a harsh break of colour.
Duck egg blue is a very popular softer shade of blue, reminiscent of the 1950s and also used in the neo-classical period. Turquoise is a definite trend at the moment for bedrooms and is vibrant and luxurious, helping to create your elegant boudoir.
