The Baja And The Svx - Two Great Cars From Subaru

Subaru has come up with some interesting car designs over the years

. The company has been around as part of Fuji Heavy Industries since 1954 and has a headquarters in the United States since 1968. With that kind of longevity, there are several decades of Subaru vehicles all across the country. The name Subaru is the Japanese name for the Pleiades cluster of six stars, and was chosen in honor of the six companies that merged to form Fuji Heavy Industries.

Two of the more interesting and, unfortunately, discontinued models are the Subaru Baja and the Subaru SVX. The Baja was light utility all-wheel drive four passenger vehicle that was manufactured from 2003 to 2006 and won the J. D. Power's APEAL Award. It combined the convenience of a passenger sedan with the flatbed truck, making it one of the more versatile vehicles of its class.

The SVX was a mid-sized GT coupe and was sold from 1991-1997. It was known for both its performance and comfort, and was the winner of the 1991 Alcan Winter Rally. In Japan, it was marketed as the Alcyone, which is the name of the brightest star in the Pleiades star cluster, again paying homage to the six companies that formed Fuji Heavy Industries.

Even though both vehicles have been discontinued, features and components that were major parts of both have been continued in other Subaru models. As a matter of fact, the engine for the SVX was the largest ever produced by Subaru for its passenger cars until the 2008 Subaru Tribeca. I expect that as more cars are released over the next several years, we will see a hearkening back to these two wonderful vehicles. Who knows; their series might even be revived at a later date. It wouldn't be the first time a car model was reincarnated.

As with any discontinued vehicle, finding parts for owners of the Baja and SVX will become increasingly more challenging. These cars have only been off the market for a short time, but as newer vehicles with new innovations are made, the focus of parts manufacturers will switch to what is contemporarily being driven. Even so, finding parts for the Baja and the SVX should pose no problem for the time being.

If one of these lovely vehicles falls into your hands, cherish it and take care of it, and if possible, stock up on some Subaru Baja and Subaru SVX parts to make sure you aren't caught broken down.
