The Iomega external hard drive arrived quickly. I was able to set it up to use with my Mac laptop by myself and I am not a tech person. The one glitch was that the directions that are included say to reformat for Mac before opening Time Machine. My Mac prompted me to go into Time Machine first. At first, I tried to comply with the written directions, but when I went back to Time Machine and followed the prompts, everything fell into place and I successfully reformatted for Mac and used the Iomega for my backup. I should have trusted my Mac to begin with! The Iomega is sleek, compact, and looks nice setting on a desk.

I don't need any special software, I just need lots of additional storage capacity. I have't had it long enough to review reliability, but so far it works perfecly. I leave it on all the time because I have an FTP application that stores files on it nightly. The device stays cool and I don't notice any noise at all. I keep it locked with a laptop security cable wich is an added feature for me. I also like the 3 year warranty. I think I made a good choice in purchasing this drive.

So far so good! Very easy to set up - the computer recognized it right away and back up is a breeze. Do wish it was a bit faster when backing up, but I just walk away until it's finished. Awesome for the price...

Initial Impression
Ordered it yesterday (today is 6/10/2010)...received it this morning (about 14 hours from order to delivery...a first).
I bought this for my iMac. It was formatted for Windoze. It took less than a minute to reformat (mac journaled).
This is about my 25th external drive (I've learned that redundancy helps me sleep at night). No drive will last forever. One day...they all stop working. I've owned just about every brand at least once. I've been particularly disappointed with newer WD (especially Mybooks), I have 4, all worthless, Maxtor (3) again...another completely undependable brand for me. I've had good luck with Seagate, Lacie, Iomega (travel drives). This is my first large Iomega.
I have 8 computers (both mac and windoze) in my house (every room)...this was by far the easiest to set up.
HUGE BONUS: this is the first drive, I've ever had, that had exactly the amount of storage that the name implies. I have a full 2TB. Rock on!
It was easily recognized and mounted through my powered hub. I have many drives that just won't mount through a hub. If you have an iMac...then you know it doesn't have enough ports (damn apple...always trying to under-gun expandability).
It's completely silent when running. I wish it had Firewire...but what are you going to do.
So far...would recommend this. Will update review if it breaks down prematurely (I think every drive should last two years...after that, I by new drive and backup the back up).

True plug & play HD! Works and looks great! A steal at this price!
I needed a second external HD to save all my precious, priceless digital photos and videos of my daughter and family I have taken over the years. It's simply not enough to back up valuable files on just one external HD if you want your data to be totally secure. Even external HD's can fail without warning, so you should have two- one kept at your home, and another small, portable one kept off site (parent's house, cousin's house, best friend's house, etc.). The likelihood of two failing at once is very low. Simply take the off site one back home occasionally to update it with your latest files. What I do for total peace of mind is, I have a small, portable WD 250GB portable external HD, about the size of a deck of cards. I frequently back up to my Iomega Prestige drive (my main drive), and double back up to my WD portable HD as indicated above (which again, is kept off site). This makes my data available should there be loss in a fire, theft, or unit failure. Speaking of the Iomega Prestige unit, it is fantastic. It works great, looks great, and is a steal at current prices. It is true plug & play, and works without any clunky software. You plug it in, your PC recognizes it, the Iomega HDD logo appears under 'My Computer', and your ready to transfer or retrieve files! For those of you that are not techies, this is ideal. It literally takes 2 minutes from the time you plug in the cables to the time you are 'cutting and pasting', dragging, or 'sending to' files. Also, it is not loud at all, and has a convenient rocker on/off switch on the rear of the unit, which cuts down on wear and tear. You simply turn the unit off when not in use. Lastly, the unit is no more loud than most other HD's. Buy with confidence.
