10 Top Tips To Get The Best Deal When Buying New Tyres
If you are anything like me, you will dread the time when it comes to buying new tyres.
However there are a few things you can do to make sure you not only get the best deal, but also end up fitting the best tyres for your vehicle too.
Here are my Top 10 Tips :
1) Ask your friends where they buy their tyres. This is what I always do before buying any product or service. Buying new tyres is not just about the price - but also the level of service your local tyre dealer offers too.
Do they respect your car while they are working on it? What happens if they accidentally scratch your alloys - or you have a problem in a week or two?
If they don't respect your custom and give good after-sales service, your "cheap" tyres may end up costing a lot more than a higher quality leading brand!
2) Call around at least 3 -5 tyre dealers first - it only takes 1 or 2 minutes for each call and you will probably notice quite a difference in prices.
3) Phone a couple of independent dealers as well as the big names - different dealers will often have different special offers and promotions, funded by different suppliers.
4) Always have the size of your tyre in front of you when you call - it is printed on the side of your tyre - and will look something like this 225/65 R17 102T
5) If they ask, never tell them the other quotes you've already had. They will use this to base their own price, even if they can afford to give you a better deal. Just tell them they are the first business you've called - but you will be getting other quotes.
6) Ask for makes and prices for... a Budget tyre, a Mid-Range tyre and a Top-End tyre. This will give you an idea of the difference in the range - and it might highlight a particularly good price one dealer has to offer over the others.
7) Always ask, "Is that the fitted price?" Whilst most dealers will quote this to you as the norm, some may not - and will then charge you an extra 7 - 10 per tyre for fitting, valve and balancing.
8) If you are not sure... whether your tyres are below the legal tread limit, or dangerous in any way - ask your local tyre dealer to check them out first. If you just ask for two new tyres, they are unlikely to say you don't really need them yet!
Even better, if you have a local garage owner you trust because they do your car servicing and repairs - pop in and ask if they will give them a quick check over for you.
9) Ask for a "bulk" discount. If you know you definitely need two tyres, ask for a quote for those two tyres up front. If you know your other two tyres will also need replacing in a few thousand miles time - ask if there is a discount if you buy a set or four. Don't forget to ask this for all the businesses you contact.
10) Check and agree the "all in price"- when you take your car in to have your new tyres fitted.
Follow these simple tips and you will always be sure of getting the best deal when shopping around and buying new tyres for your vehicle
