10 Ways To Make Exercise A Daily Habit

Exercise is something that turns most people off

. Those who want to lose weight often prefer taking a weight loss pill or even go on a starvation diet instead of doing a physical activity to burn calories.

First time dieters in particular, are attracted to the idea that just by simply popping a pill they would be able to lose weight. This wrong notion is further encouraged by weight loss products manufacturers who make outrageous claims about what their diet supplements can do which a lot of people are only too willing to believe. There have been many "miracle" weight loss pills that have come and gone and although some of them work, there has always been the question of safety and quality of weight loss. Most of these pills do not provide permanent weight loss and worse, there are some that produce adverse side-effects such as heart attack or stroke.

There really is no better way to get fit than by eating a balanced diet and exercising. The human body is designed to move. Whether you have a weight problem or not, muscles must be regularly stimulated otherwise they will atrophy. A sagging physique and loss of muscle strength are proof of this. Regular exercise is not only for athletes or dieters. Everyone should do some form of exercise in order to stay in good health.

If you want to lose weight or just want to become more fit but hate exercise, there are some things you can do to slowly help you overcome your aversion to exercise. Start with deciding to commit to exercise no matter what. You may have trouble for the first few weeks but if you keep at it, you will begin to like exercise or even reach the point that your day wouldn't be complete without it. Regular exercise triggers biological and psychological processes that make you want and even enjoy it. You will never understand this however, if you don't try.

To get started, here are 10 ways in which you can make exercise a part of your regular routine:

1. Find an exercise partner. You will be more motivated and committed if you have someone whom you are willing to be accountable to. Choose someone who already works out regularly.

2. Make an exercise schedule and stick with it. Blocking out a regular workout time will help you develop discipline as well.

3. Come up with daily and weekly fitness goals. It is important that your goals are realistic otherwise you might end up using your failure to achieve them as an excuse to quit. On the other hand, if your goals are doable, you will be able to accomplish them and will be motivated to continue aiming for higher ones.

4. Join group classes. Being with a group will provide you with the support you need especially when you feel like giving up. At the same time, the chance of encouraging others as well can have a positive effect on you.

5. Work with a fitness trainer. This may be a bit expensive but professionals know a lot not only about exercise and diet but also how to develop discipline. In addition, personal trainers are great at motivating their clients.

6. Squeeze in a bit of exercise as you work at home or in the office. Make a few adjustments in the way you usually do things such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking your car far from the office entrance so you can walk the rest of the way, or doing isometric buttock exercises while you do the dishes. You'd be surprised at the workout you can get in just one day!

7. Make it a family activity. Decide on a sport or physical activity that everyone in the family would enjoy and have a regular schedule for it.

8. Join fitness events and competitions. Consider yourself an amateur athlete and participate in organized competitions or fitness events such as fun runs or community basketball leagues. Set your goals and follow a training program as you get ready for the big challenge. Knowing that you will be competing will give your training an added dimension and you will feel a great sense of accomplishment when it's done.

9. Engage in recreational activities with your friends. Choose one that would get all of you working up a good sweat such as ballroom dancing or hiking. This is certainly healthier than having a sit-down lunch or dinner.

10.Write a reminder to yourself stating why exercise is important. Make sure to read it everyday and follow it. It will help you stay focused.
