You have always wanted to be an entrepreneur when others wanted to be train drivers or nurses. This is one of the best reasons you can have.

There are no other options for you. The workplace is changing fast, especially for young people, and as the traditional avenues of employment close down, self-employment looks an increasingly interesting option for under 25s.

You have what you think is profitable idea or you see an opportunity that you want to exploit. Every business starts with an idea.

You think you will have more independence than you would otherwise. You won't have to do what others tell you and you can be master or mistress of your own decisions. All true.

You have acquired skills, ideas and knowledge that you think you can put to very good effect in the business world. You'll feel more secure running your own business rather than working as an employee for someone else.

To some that may seem strange, but think about it. Can you be secure in any job today when you are always looking over your shoulder waiting for the redundancy notice? These days there are no jobs for life.

As a business person, if things aren't going well you can do something about it through your own efforts, working longer or being smarter. If you are an employee you may disagree with management's decisions yet be unable to do anything about them.

You have far greater control over what you do. If something is unproductive or a waste of time you can cut it out of your day. This means that you can end up with a far better life style by having a better car, when you want it, taking a holiday when you want it (as long as all of these are possible). At the same time you will have freedom to go down routes and avenues that are closed when working as an employee.

As a young person you can bring a whole range of ideas and thoughts to the business world. This lets you take a fresh look at the business world and see opportunities and chances that older, more jaded people don't see. Most importantly, you probably won't think that there is just one way to do things as so many older business people do. You will also have a greater awareness of what people of your own age want. In business, the older and more successful you become, the easier it is to become isolated from the world at large, particularly the younger markets. Carving out a business niche selling to people you understand and can empathize with could be a highly profitable move. Why not exploit that market while you still have a very good knowledge of it?

You may well know more about modern technology than older business people, be less frightened of using it and also see opportunities to exploit it. This isn't to suggest that you're some "tech-head", but someone who understands that technology is there to be used even if you don't necessarily understand its fine workings.

As a young entrepreneur you should be hungry for success, while many older business people will have reached a level of comfort and stopped there, no longer willing to work the hours or surmount yet another problem.

And last but certainly not least, because you want to make money. Remember, you don't make serious money working for someone else
