2 Of The Biggest Myths In SEO That Many People Waste Time With (You Need to Know This)

This article will discuss two big myths when it comes to SEO. I'd like to mention these because there are still a very high percentage of people out there who believe these things are necessary in order to get good rankings for your site. Read on to understand which of these myths to ignore.

Contrary to popular opinion, SEO is not so difficult, and you don't need to be a member of Mensa in order to figure out how to optimise for the search engines...

But, however much we'd like to avoid it -- if you want to gain that free, juicy and quality traffic from the big dogs like Google, we need to optimise our sites using SEO techniques in order to gain the best ranking in the SE's for our chosen keywords. The best place to aim for is the number one spot, as that is the most clicked according to studies of heat maps.

Myth (time waster) #1 The meta tags myth.

Meta tags were originally in place to provide search engines information about the website. They were also used by the web developer in order to organise the site structure. However, this was all nearly a decade ago, when the search engines were first designed. They are no longer used by the main ones, so should therefore be disregarded.

Myth (time waster) #2 The search engine submission myth.

Again, this technique was only very useful many years ago, when it was quite difficult to get to your site indexed and recognised in the search engines. There were all sorts of techniques used in order to get the spiders to visit the site and index it in the search engine database.

However, nowadays it's as easy as 'pinging' your website once, and within as little as 20 minutes, your site will be indexed in the search engines.

So, next time you hear of someone offering a service of submitting your website to 300 search engines, please know that it is a useless scam, and the most you're going to get out of it is three hundred of spam emails.
