It is often said that better the competition, better is the service. In the above statement, if we remove the word better' and put healthier' along with replacing services with education, you will get the present education based scenario in United States.

Many educational counselors debate as to why only some of the colleges and universities fight for the top slot, while other institutions fall behind. The concept of understanding the top 2000 ranked universities of United States also hovers around the same round of discussion.

Let us start the debate by asking a simple question; what is common between the following universities: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Duke University and Rice University. The answer is simple, the above universities along with some European campuses and a handful of Asian educational hubs fit into the top slots of any educational ranking system which rates campuses.

There are many universities which have revolutionized the concept of education, wherein state of the art' facilities meet some of the best faculty members, but when it comes to results, less said is better. With peer evaluation an important aspect of college & university ranking system, many educationalists have debated the authenticity of these rankings. But apart from peer evaluation & surveys, there are so many other aspects of a ranking system. Actually, there are some college rankings which do not considered peer evaluation surveys, and even then the above universities top the list.

The reason being, top ranked universities not only provide world class facilities, but these institutions are laid on a solid platform of education based principles. Most top ranked universities give emphasis on better administration with impetus on every aspect, from sports to an online university degree. Getting a better rank is a cumulative effort and effect; hence we do not see a sudden jump (in the rankings) of a college or a university.

Some other institutions which are catching the race include Cornell University, Wesleyan University, Amherst College, Williams College, Brown University, Middlebury College and Vassar College. However, other universities and institutions are also catching the pace well.All in all, with new concepts and ways of assimilating learning coming up, the race of top ranked educational institutions will get tougher.
