3 Old School Mobile Phones; A Look Back At How Far Mobile Phones Have Come

Current technology is constantly making mobile phones smaller

, hotter, more advanced, and even cheaper. It is easy to forget just how far mobile phones have come since the late 1980s. There are some memories built in to our brains, such as the Zack Morris Phone from Saved by the Bell, when it comes to popular phones from a few decades ago. However, it seems it is easy to take for granted the mobile phone options that are abound these days. With that said lets take a quick jog down memory lane and look back at some of the old school phones that were available when mobile technology was just scratching the surface. Here are three phones that will capture your attention and make you realize just how far mobile phones have come in a few, short years.

Motorola MicroTAC

This phone was first put onto the market in the late 1980s and was known as one of the most innovative breakthroughs at the time. The flip open mouthpiece was sexy at the time and it quickly became known as the lightest mobile phone that had been available as of yet. Even though the MicroTAC was targeted at the general public, the $3,000 price tag only made it a realistic purchase for a select view with that kind of money to blow.

The Block Cell Phone

This is probably the first mobile phone that people remember. It was made infamous on the popular TV show Saved by the Bell and was nicknamed The Brick due to the fact that it essentially looks like a brick. Picking this phone up is comparable to working out with free weights. That is not even to mention the battery charging stand that came with this phone that was comparable in size to a new age DVD player.

Blackberry 850

The Blackberry phone can be seen everywhere these days. No matter where you go people are playing games, texting, scheduling, organizing and making phone calls with one of the hottest smart phones on the market. The Blackberry has become known as one of the elite mobile phones on the market, but it does not mean that it started out that way. The original Blackberry, the 850, first came onto the market in the late 1990s and was more of a two-way pager than it was a phone. It certainly has come a very long way and you would have been hard pressed to realize how far the Blackberry would come.

Looking back at these original mobile phones it is easy to be stunned at just how far things have come. We all utilize our mobile phones for all sorts of functions and applications and forget just how difficult and expensive mobile phones used to be just a few years back. So the next time you reach for your phone in order to perform everyday tasks, just remember how hard it must have been for mobile phone users just ten years ago. Appreciate and take advantage of the plethora of options, applications and functions you have right in the palm of your hands.
