3 Powerful Strategies to Stay Motivated in Your Ab Workouts
Staying motivated with your ab workouts can be quite a job especially when your results don't happen quite as fast as you'd like them too. If you're in danger of falling off from the ab exercise bandwagon, take heart! Here are three powerful strategies which will help you stay motivated about your abdominal workouts and help you to start seeing results faster too.
Tip #1: Give Yourself Tangible Measures of Success for Your Ab Workouts
Sometimes, you receive more benefit from your abdominal exercises that you can easily see. Taking some actual measurements of yourself can provide you with results that are more visually tangible.
For example, use a measuring tape or string and write down the measurements for your waist, chest, thighs, arms, calves, and neck. Next, get an idea of what your overall body fat currently is. Do your ab workouts along with your regular exercise regimen 3-5 times a week for 45 minutes to an hour. Then, check your measurements once per week to see the benefits of your efforts. It is not advised that you do this measuring more than once per week the point of taking these measurements is to celebrate small success, and not obsess!
Tip #2: Don't Focus on Ab Workouts Alone
Your body and your mind will quickly get bored and frustrated if you're only focusing on one aspect of yourself that you'd like to change. The abdominals are an important part of your overall core strength, but they are just ONE part of the whole.
You'll see results a lot faster when you stop focusing on the individual parts and start focusing on strengthening your entire body. Because they are a part of your core, your abdominals will benefit from any type of core workout you do, regardless of whether or not you intended to work your abs by exercising.
Thus, you should give yourself diversity and challenge by augmenting your workouts with high intensity interval training and a focus on building overall strength. You're still gaining the benefits of abdominal exercise vicariously, but are doing it in a more holistic (and fun!) way. You're also providing your mind a much needed break from monotony which is one of the best ways to stay motivated about your workouts!
Tip #3: Create Support for Your Ab Workouts
No man (or woman!) is an island, and we all benefit from the motivation we can receive from our peers. Try challenging your beer drinking buddies to a gut-busting contest, or seeing if some of your co-workers would be interested in a daily lunch-time walk around the block.
Get creative with your partner and see who can come up with the best tasting, healthy meal each week. Join a fitness club or take a martial arts class. Getting others involved in your lifestyle changes is an excellent way to keep your motivation strong and have fun achieving your goals.
The point to take home here is that whittling your waistline and learning how to build six-pack abs can be a fun and rewarding process especially when you find creative ways to stay committed to your goals. Take your motivation by the proverbial horns, and get to building that body you've always dreamed about!
