1. Update Your Online Password Monthly

You might think this is over the top, but its proven to prevent credit card (and other banking fraud) by 40%. So what I usually do is set a reminder on my calendar or phone to alert me each month to log into my online banking and change my password. Also remember that when your choosing your password, dont use obvious information in creating it such as your birth date.

2. Shred ALL Papers

This is another precaution that some people think is over the top, but the fact of the matter is that you have no idea where youre garbage is going end up with all those bills, receipts, etc. I invested in a shredder about ten years ago and from that point on I decided to shred EVERYTHING. That includes bank statements, receipts, letters, etc. Its proven that shredding your statements limits your chances of experiencing fraud greatly.

3. Beware of Electronic Pickpockets

As ridiculous as it sounds, this is the reality of the world now. There are now tiny little scanners criminals carry with themand this device literally scans your card from just a few inches away. The terrifying aspect about this is that the device doesnt have to touch or swipe your card.the criminal just has to get within a certain range and it will automatically scan your card. These pickpockets are most successful for grabbing the information from cards such as PayPass or Blink which offers consumers a quick payment options, but because of the lack of security, these cards are now being phased out. So dont become the next electronic pickpocket victim, and avoid these fast pass cards.
