3D Animation: The Latest Technology that Thrills!

Last year, Samsung Electronics of South Korea decided to join hands with James Cameron, the director of ever famous 3D movie Avatar to make the movie compatible with their 3D TV sets. Technology is being developed to such a level that we get all the entertainment packed along with the comfort of home!

With the success of Avatar, 3D movies became a phenomenal formula for attracting audiences' attention to the movies. And since people too have a special liking for all that is a little unusual or out of the box; the wholesome use of the technology in the movies worked instantly.

But what exactly, this technology is like? To make it simple, it is the art that creates moving images with the help of computers. Earlier, the animation used to be done using 2D technology that could hardly add any excitement even though it too was a good source of entertainment. Audiences are more thrilled to see the characters in the film go real and the illusion created by the three dimensional technology takes them to a kind of dream land.

The term 3D was first used by William Fetter, an American computer graphics art director, an employee with Boeing; he had also coined the word Computer Graphics'. It was with release of Future World' in 1976 that the three dimensional technology tied a special bond with movies! And with the release of Toy Story', the technology received further acceptance in the world of movies.

3D movies are fascinating and full of wonder but they are not created just like any other movie, they need months of dedication from the professionals and of course, it costs a lot to create them. And it is not just the time and the money involved that makes it difficult to create them but also the requirement of proper technologies as well as the professionals with great expertise.

The initial requirement for the creation of 3D animation requires the animator to create a skeletal framework of the character which is called Animation Variable, commonly known as Avar. Avars control all the movements of the animated character from one frame to another. These are then fused with the models built in full wire frame and finally after some more lengthy processes the final scene of the 3D animated movie gets ready.

Anyone who has passion for animation and technology can learn the skill though it isn't that easy to learn and requires a lot of patience and dedication. Anyway, if you are just a movie freak and not interested in learning the technical skills, watch the 3D flicks at your nearest theatres or on your 3D TV sets!
