An alternative to sponges and cleanser pads, lint-free cloths are usually made of cotton and do not leave behind particles as they are being used. Here are 4 uses for lint-free cloths at home.

Computers

Computer screens are dust and lint magnets. They quickly gain a film over the surface and using the wrong type of material to clean it can damage them. Flat screens, in particular, should never be wiped off with a bare hand. Dirt and oils from the skin can affect the finish and leave streaks as well. Instead, a clean, dry microfiber cloth will remove any build-up. This should be done regularly to allow a clear view of the computer screen and prolong the life of the device.

Wood Furniture

Wood furniture adds a look of elegance and class to any room. Popular in the living room, dining room, office or den of the home, coffee tables, end tables, entertainment centers, chairs and mantles are often made of wood. Oiled wood pieces should be wiped down regularly with a clean, dry, soft cotton cloth to maintain a shine. For furniture that has been neglected or needs extra attention, use a special wood cleaner with a clean, soft rag to bring out a deep, glossy finish.

Nursery

The baby's room is a place that must be kept clean and germ-free to help keep the whole family healthy. Germs from dirty diapers, spills and everyday activities build up in the nursery. One of the areas that needs special cleaning attention is the diaper changing station. The grown-ups should clean the area with disinfectant daily, cleaning it with a clean lint-free rag. This keeps the baby and all of the items that come in contact with the diaper changing area from breeding germs and bacteria. Using a cleaner made especially for that surface usually leaves the room smelling fresh and clean. The rags can then be laundered as often as necessary.

Cars

One way to prolong the life of a vehicle is to wash and wax it regularly. Cleaning it every week or two prevents dirt and outdoor substances from damaging the paint and clear coat on the vehicle. First wet down the vehicle. Next, use a simple solution of soap and water or a special carwash fluid applied with a sponge or rag. Clean the car one section at time, and rinse it off before the soap dries. Give the vehicle a thorough rinsing, then dry it off with a number of microfiber towels. These will absorb the moisture without leaving scratches or water marks. The car can be waxed a few times a year, depending on the climate. Put on the wax with the applicator provided or a damp sponge. Do one section at a time, allowing it to dry to a haze. Use lint-free cloths or microfiber towels to buff the vehicle to a shine.
