4 Ruthless Ways to Really Reach Your Goals

Ruthless is a strong word, but an important word if you take your goals seriously

. If you have business goals because you crave the change, desperate for the difference they'll make for you, then there's no room for namby-pamby meandering. You have to ruthlessly rid yourself of the obstacles that have stopped those goals from being reality already. Here are some baselines to help you decide what's holding you back, and should go, pronto: If you don't love it, shove it. Stocktake what you give your time to, and ruthlessly delete, delegate or automate anything that you don't love. When you do what you love, you work faster and retain your energy. You won't achieve your goals when your energy is being drained by the things you don't love. Even if it ain't broke, fix it. Look for the smarter way of doing things, so they take less of your time and resources. Flowchart how things get done in your business, and redesign the processes to simply, automate and standardise. If it doesn't pay its way, ditch it. If there are activities or projects you're resourcing, and they aren't showing any effect on your KPI trends - that is to say, doing these activities and projects isn't improving your measurable performance results - then they are making your business bleed. They're vampires - put a stake through them. Drop the bottom out of your Paretos. Rank your customers from most to least profitable, rank your products from most to least profitable, rank your activities from most to least productive. Drop the bottom 10% of everything. Ruthless? Yes. But that's the point. Within reason and sensibility of course, you have to stop doing the things that are holding you back from reaching your goals. If your goals are truly worth it, you'll find a way. TAKE ACTION:

Don't start 2010 without knowing what you WON'T be doing first day back at work after the Christmas Holidays. If you don't start the year with the intention of changing, then you'll likely finish the year without acheiving your goals.
