Just because you generally won't receive the same quality of car as you would were you buying from a dealer doesn't mean the car will be of poor quality - it simply means that more often than not those for sale in online auctions or on classified websites have usually been used as family cars, so they generally haven't been looked after as well as someone who is fanatical about BMWs.
4. Consider a specialist club - whether it's a magazine devoted to BMW, an online forum or a group that organises regular rallies, these guys are going to have looked after BMW as though they were their only pride and joy in the world.
Having a distinct love for BMWs, it might not be the easiest thing in the world - trying to take a BMW off one of their hands - but if their selling it, you can guarantee that it will have been looked after better than anyone else will have done.
