5 Steps To Your CRASH Hot Career

5 Steps To Your CRASH Hot Career

Isn't that what we all want? A CRASH Hot career we are proud of a career that has us jumping from the rooftops telling everyone what we do, why we do it and why they should be doing it too?!

Of course it is! Many people may be content to do a job that pays the bills, but I for one want more from my career and I know YOU do too. So that's why I have created an easy to remember formula for you, to help you reach your Career Goals and to have you soaring towards the CRASH Hot career you know you deserve! use this formula to help you get and keep your career on track.

C = CAREER GOAL

Create a Career Goal. This is common-sense, isn't it? If you don't know what your goal is, how will you ever get there?! Yet most people I coach have no idea what they actually want out of their career. Your goal could be long-term, such as wanting to be a partner of the firm you work for within 5 years. or it could be much more short-term such as successfully getting the pay-rise you want in the new financial year. Start with one goal and then build them up. When you do that, you have the start of a great Career Plan (the subject of another upcoming blog). And when you have a Career Plan, you are well and truly on the way to taking charge of your career, and your life.

R = REASON WHY

To achieve any goal you have to make it a "must" do. You must know the reason why you want to achieve your goal. That is, the goal must be completely compelling to you, it must give you enough leverage to really go out there and get it. Take the pay-rise example above perhaps a "must" for achieving this would be saving a deposit for your first home, or for a bigger home to allow you to start a family. It doesn't matter if the reason wouldn't work for someone else it MUST work for YOU!

A = ACTION!

Successful people don't just talk about achieving great goals they get out there and they DO it! Take action, any action, but preferably MASSIVE action towards your goal. Lets look at getting the pay-rise again, actions you might take could include putting up your hand for new projects; volunteering to mentor a new member of staff, or perhaps writing a blog for the company website. Take action that will add value to your employer and your colleague.

S = TAKE A STEP BACK AND TAKE STOCK

Once you are in action it's important to take a step back and notice what is happening. Are you heading in the right direction, getting closer to what you want? Make time to assess what is happening in relation to your goal thanks to your actions.

H = HAVE ANOTHER GO!

This one is quite straight-forward, if it's working and you are on track, keep going! If not, have anotehr go and do something different! Keep trying different things until you get the result you want. If you have taken the step of working on a new project and feel a bit out of your depth, so you are not sure it will have the effect you wish, consider asking for more training to ensure you are in the best possible position to contribute as much as you can, thereby giving you more credibility when you ask for the pay-rise.
