Everybody aims to be competitive and up to date in their field of career, so as to become competitive, marketable, added value to a paycheck and sometimes, status. To facilitate this, one has to keep learning, researching, practicing and training on new technologies and all the noises that promise a brighter future in order to stay on top of the game. That is the right/must thing to do. BUT when done wrong, the outcome is a complete disaster and silent death of your career. As human, we have limits, limited capabilities for doing a limited amount of things in specified period, it is the fact that our brains are complicated systems. A Human brain is a complicated and most advanced logical system ever existed, it will take decades for scientists to have a complete machine that depicts human brain intelligence for even 20%. So it is not a fair trial to compare human brain with artificial machines.
The Difference
For a human brain, learning, studying and feeding it with new rules, semantics, information and processes is a PROCESS not an EVENT. We do not install mathematics software in human brain to become masters in mathematics, we teach and train it so that the new processes are fused deep into our brain network. This process of feeding, training a brain new things involves time. But for the machine, it is an event, do a software installation, or application deployment and DONE! The machine will do whatever instructions it is given to its scope.

Comparing the pace of development and new technologies being introduced day after day, it is impossible for a single brain to take in whatever comes, and still be good, productive and efficient in all that input. By understanding this, people have to identify their capabilities and limits, and utilize that to achieve maximum productivity. If you manage to do that, then choose the path on career expertise you want to follow, and then give all your effort to become very good at it. Build passion on what you do, and stay updated on that. By doing this, you filter all unwanted noises, while focusing on those relevant to what you want. If you identify your path and become a master on that, you will become an expert, a professional in your career.
Failure to do that, you will find yourself in position where you try to race with the speed of new technologies, and end up bombarding your brain with everything that comes your way in the name of new tech, and try to learn every piece of technology that lights the headlines, in the process you will be engineering for a complete meltdown. Finally you will end up knowing a little bit of everything and be good at nothing. And you know quite well what that means, you will be good for nothing. Wastage of time, resources, energy and life. In return you get ZERO output and the whole world falling in front of you.

Identify your capabilities, know your limits, examine your passion on what you do, and when you identify what you are good at, and enjoy doing it, go for it.
