Leisure Battery
The motorhomes engine battery' is designed to provide a large amount of power for a short time and then recharge quickly - as you drive the engine charges the battery whilst the electrics and head lights drain it. This makes it unsuitable for prolonged use whilst not moving and also means you run the risk of flattening your main battery, leaving you with an engine that won't start.
However, a Leisure battery' is a separate second battery that drains much slower and outputs at just 12v, which is perfect for running most motorhome lights and appliances, making it an essential piece of kit if you intend on visiting sites without electric hookup.
Satellite Navigation (Sat-Nav)
More and more of us are relying on Sat-Navs on a fairly regular basis, and even if you don't have a use for one every day, when you're visiting locations in your motorhome that are off the beaten track they can be a Godsend.
As with most consumer electronics the price of these handy devices has come down massively in the last few years and they now represent an affordable and reliable way to navigate your motorhome.

Campsites provide varying voltages through their electric hookup, but are often 220v-240v, which is more than enough to power most motorhomes.
However if there isn't an electric hookup, and you're running everything from a leisure battery, low consumption 12v accessories and lighting are generally the best way to go.
The development of low power consumption LCD TV panels means that 12v TV's are much cheaper than they used to be and come in sizes up to around 20", making them perfect for use in a motorhome.

Pro-active tracking devices have revolutionised the motorhome security market by providing a way to monitor, track, and ultimately recover a motorhome which has been stolen. They also mean you are more likely to recover your motorhome and its contents as police work with the device's operator to catch the runaway van as soon as possible.
Look for a device which is backed up by a 24 hour monitoring centre and has accreditation from one of the approved industry bodies, such as Thatcham Quality Approval (TQA) or Sold Secure. Also make sure that the device works in any countries which you plan to visit, as the monitoring centres rely heavily on local police.
Another big advantage of tracking devices is the huge motorhome insurance discount which you can receive. Some insurers offer as much as 30%, a sign of the insurance industry's faith in these devices.
Window and windscreen covers
Looking a bit like padded tin foil these are a simple and relatively cheap way to keep the sun outside in summer and the heat inside in winter providing a more comfortable living environment inside your motorhome all year round.
Window and windscreen covers come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are often designed for specific motorhome models, so be sure to check your measurements and get one which provides a close fit to your motorhomes windows.
